Rick McFarland is a Little Rock photojournalist who works full time for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, the state’s largest newspaper. In his 26 years as a photographer – for the San Antonio Light, the San Antonio Express-News, and the Associated Press – Rick has covered breaking news, sports and features. He’s won numerous awards for his work: the Headliner Awards; Texas APME; Arkansas APME; Society of Professional Journalist; the Clarion Awards; the Atlanta Seminar of Photojournalism; the National Press Photographers Association and was a finalist in the Katy Awards. Rick graduated from the University of Houston in 1979 with a BA in radio/television/film. He is married and has four children, ranging from 4 to 18 years.

Rick specializes in documentary weddings and environmental portraits of children. His wedding photography captures the most candid, intimate moments of that special day. And when it comes to photographing children, Rick believes strongly in letting kids be kids. That means his camera catches real smiles, real laughs, real life.
